Firstly, you take one blackberry, but then you eat a whole handful of berries! And it's not just because it's impossible to stop. It's just that a blackberry is not a single fruit — it's actually an aggregate composed of lots of individual berries. Each "bobble" in the blackberry bears one seed and is termed a "drupe". So, there are already a lot of berries in one blackberry, just small ones! And remember — blackberries should not be collected after Old Michaelmas Day (11 October), according to British folklore, since the Devil has made them unsafe to eat by stomping, spitting, or fouling on them.
